How do you pick a new apartment near work?
Start from the job site and work outward. You know where you’ll be at 8 AM. We list new builds by free-flow drive time to that site, then note the construction corridors and tolls that can change the real number. True monthly sits beside each building, so the trade-off between minutes and money is in plain dollars.
San Antonio is adding jobs in a few clear places. Toyota adds 2,000 jobs by 2030. IEM plans up to 3,000 jobs at Brooks by 2030. University Health opens its Retama hospital in February 2027 and its Palo Alto hospital in April 2027. If your start date is tied to one of these, we’ll build your list around it.
Which job centers do we map to?
USAA headquarters and the north side. Reached from Loop 1604 and I-10. The Loop 1604 expansion runs through the corridor, so we flag work zones on each route.
South Texas Medical Center. On the northwest side, close to Far Northwest San Antonio, which had 16 tracked new buildings on Oct 25, 2026. Christus Santa Rosa and other employers sit in and around the district.
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas. On the far south side. South Side new builds and some west-side options can work, depending on the route.
Brooks and IEM. On the southeast side. See our South Side area page for Brooks and Palo Alto.
Resolute Health, Rush Enterprises HQ, and Amazon Schertz. Along the I-35 northeast corridor. From the nearest tracked New Braunfels builds, Resolute is about 1 minute, Rush HQ about 5, and Amazon Schertz about 15 in free-flow traffic. See New Braunfels.
West side data centers. Microsoft’s Westover Hills data centers and other west-side employers sit near the Lackland area, where our Lackland gate page lists the closest tracked new builds.
Why free-flow minutes aren’t the whole story
Free-flow drive time is the cleanest number we can measure and repeat. It’s the baseline, not a promise for 8 AM commute time. Two projects matter most right now: the Loop 1604 expansion on the north and west sides, and I-35 NEX on the northeast corridor. Both can add time at peak hours, and work zones shift month to month.
We flag which buildings put the most construction between you and your job. On tour days, we route four buildings into one afternoon so you can drive a real version of the commute.
What about tolls?
SH 130 near Seguin is the metro’s only toll road. From Nov 11, 2026, a daily SH 130 commute from Seguin runs $464.10 a month. That’s more than many fee sheets, and it belongs in your true monthly if you’ll drive it. Our guide on the SH 130 toll from Seguin shows the math.
Can you rent with an offer letter?
Usually, yes. Many communities accept an offer letter in place of pay stubs, but policies vary. Some want a minimum income multiple of base rent. Some want the start date within a set window. We confirm each community’s policy before you pay any application fee. Our guide on renting with an offer letter lists what the letter should include.
How we help you move for a job
Send your workplace and start date. We’ll shortlist buildings by free-flow minutes the same day, flag construction corridors and tolls, and pre-check offer-letter approval. If you’re moving from out of town, we’ll set up live video walks around your start date and help start utilities before move-in.
